History of the Internet Speech

Wednesday, February 9th, 2005 by Ben

Here’s the latest Speech that I gave today in my class. Overall it went pretty well but as always, I could have used more rehearsing. My main areas of focus are to use hand gestures and to create better conclusions that wrap up my points better. Other than that I had pretty good feedback.

Friday nights

Friday, February 4th, 2005 by Ben

I love Friday nights… Washington Week, NOW, BBC World News, and then my all-time fav… The McLaughlin Group. All owed to the one and only OPB (PBS to most). Of course, tonight everyone is talking about Social Security and I’m getting real tired of hearing about it, but it has it’s interesting moments.

Clark update

Well - this week didn’t go so well in school. I decided finally that there was no way I was going to be able to continue my math class and get anything other than an “F”. The concepts just weren’t sinking in. As far as financial aid was concerned, dropping the class or failing class would result in the same reprocussions: academic suspension and the makeup course (a lower level math) would have to be paid out-of-pocket. Rather than sit through 6 hours of lecture every week and do 3x as much homework, I opted to withdraw from the class. It was a difficult decision and I still don’t know if it was the right one, but I’m happy to be home with Shae and Johnathan (even though he’s asleep) to spend quality time.

State of the Union

Thursday, February 3rd, 2005 by Ben

I don’t know how to watch that junk and take it seriously. The audience stops and claps after every other sentence of a speech full of holes and vague references that he didn’t even write. Jim Lehrer noted that it was one of the most climaticically emotional speeches that he’s seen in his time. Mark Shields said something of a comparison between Bush’s speech (I use the term loosely here) and Reagan’s post-assasination State of the Union address in 1982.

I find myself in disagreement with both of those guys. Maybe my sensibility of a good speech isn’t quite up to par (at least I’m in a speech class now right?), but George Bush has yet to strike a nerve or chord with me to date.

blessed sleep!

Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 by Shae

I should have posted something earlier, but I have been so floating on air since Ji has been sleeping all night that I don’t even have words to describe how happy I am. A full night of sleep, free time in the evenings, what am I going to do with myself? His average is ten consecutive hours for the past three nights. Better than four? I think so!
Not only that, but Ji now puts himself to sleep. I kiss him goodnight and walk away stress-free. No more rocking and pleading, “please let him sleep!” Tonight he whimpered for only ten minutes before the crash and burn.
Thank God for Ben. I couldn’t have done it without him. I see now why this was intended for two.
