Clackamas College
Overall, we did pretty well at the tournament. It was fairly small so there wasn’t a whole lot of competition; somewhere around 8 schools or so. After the first day of literally running at full-speed around the campus trying to get to my Individual Events, I had decided that it really wasn’t my weekend. The events that I was entered into on the first day were Editorial Commentary (Jun), Extemporaneous (Jun), Persuasive (Jun), Speech to Entertain (Jun), and Duo (Nov). The next day we started the debating and that was where I really started to feel the pressure. After the first two rounds Nik and I figured that we had won one, but the other was a complete burn. To make things worse, the one that we thought we had lost we were trying to prove that Walmart was bad for America (we gave a Value of “Quality of Life”)! The Opposition team was clearly in Open and did a great job with their questioning of our case. After those rounds, I was pleasantly surprised (it’s a love-hate thing) that I had gotten into finals for Extemporaneous, Duo, and Persuasive! After all that jazz we had three rounds of debate left. Nik and I were really only aiming to just not be embarrassed too much since we were hitting a few Open teams here and there. Once we finished those rounds we were ready to close up shop and relax but nope… turns out that Nik and I didn’t do to bad. Turns out that we the won first the 4 out of 5 rounds of debate… beating several Open teams in the process! We walked out of that tournament with a Gold award in Junior debate, and a Bronze award in Open debate. Add that to a small stack of awards from the other final rounds I got into and it was actually a pretty successful weekend!

It was a beautiful thing.
So, we’re going to go Open next weekend, right?
