Complacency

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006 by Ben

n.

1. A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble, or controversy.

2. An instance of contented self-satisfaction.

This is our enemy. You see. The opposite of “Courage” is not fear. It is complacency. I heard a great analogy on the radio today that inspired part of these thoughts: “A dead fish can still float along with the stream.”

Don’t be that dead fish. Don’t sit on the sidelines. Let your voice be heard because it may be all that you have. When speaking in unison, we create songs of change. And there is always a need for change.

Phew

It’s such a relief to be done with this confounded house ordeal. We finally have a nice piece of equity to rest on until we see fit. Shae and I are both still getting used to living so close to other people after having our 1/4 acre lot in Hazel Dell. In the long run we’ll be much better off though with this place as just in the few weeks of owning it we’ve had the value go up.

We’re back on Dial-up for the time being but I’ve at least been able to configure it to be pretty quick. SlipStream rocks! Hopefully if/when the budget settles down we will be able to assess whether DSL/Cable is actually worth the money.

I also tripled the RAM in the server since it has been literally crawling for the past week.

Be safe out there.

Big Boy Bed

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006 by Ben

Tonight marks Johnathan’s first night in a real bed! He crawled in there all by himself, we read a few stories, and he winked out. A month ago it seemed to us that he learned a new word every day — now he learns ten. When we get settled in the new condo, hopefully this weekend, he will have the real thing setup rather than a mattress on the floor. Things are definitely on the up-and-up for Djai!

What the #$*! Do We (K)now!?

Shae rented this movie last week and she enticed me to check it out tonight. Wow! That sums up at least my most general feelings. It’s such a treat to watch something on the flicker-box and walk away feeling like I actually learned something. Some very useful somethings no-less. For anyone with even the smallest curiosity towards philosophy or theology I would highly recommend it. For everyone else — I strongly recommend it. I’ve constantly heard ideas about quantum mechanics being thrown about (sometimes even at debate tournaments), but this film broke it down to a point where I could easily put my mind around it. I look forward to getting more involved in those studies on my own time now that I have at least a tiny grasp of its intent and authority.

While doing a little searching around on some of the ideas that were brought about in the film I ran across this site: http://www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/bleep.html. It appears to debunk several of the methods in which quantum physics was presented. I’ll have to check it out and compare them to find out anything further.

Annihilation

From dehumanization to arms production,
For the benefit of the nation or its destruction

Power, power, the law of the land,
Those living for death will die by their own hand,
Life’s no ordeal if you come to terms,
Reject the system dictating the norms

Bye Bilbo!

Friday, February 3rd, 2006 by Ben

Tonight, I officially retired the old gallery password. Bilbo Baggins served us well for the past year, but he will now move on. If you didn’t get the memo, just send us a message we’ll give you the new one (that is, as long as you can provide at least 2 pieces of personal identification, a utility bill to prove residency, W-2’s, and possibly cover an access fee).

We’re posting a new video every week or so as well. The Video section will display the last 10 that were uploaded, but the directory itself holds many more. I’ll probably modify the script later for a “Display All” type function.

I almost forgot, I uploaded the pictures for January as well. While doing this I also upgraded the gallery software. Hopefully it is a little more efficient on the front.

Imagine

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…
