Lewis & Clark State

Well, we got back from our first weekend tournament in Lewiston, ID. Didn’t get in until almost 2am on Monday morning… yeck! We came in 2nd against all community colleges again. It was a really tough tournament. I really felt like the competition had gone up a notch from the last one. Nik and I still had a great time with debates though. We actually made it the very last round of the novice division debates! Right there… at the top of the tournament… but alas… our luck ran out and we lost on an 0-3 vote. But you know what? I had fun!

Best part of the tournament by far was when Nik was able to incorporate the phrase “Oh ziiiiiiiinnnnnnnggg!!!” into a speech by answering a question from the affirmative. Hehe. Too good!

We love you Durin

Today Durin (and Atticus) moved to another loving home because of Johnathan’s most recent allergy findings. It was one of the hardest things that I’ve done, parting with a friend like that, but it had to be. He will be cared for, and I can rest with peace in that fact. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.

House offer

Today we got an offer on our house and we’ve accepted it! Phew! It took a long time but someone finally wanted it. Now we have the fun of finding a new place!

Lewis & Clark

Our first tournament is finally over! Three days of speaking and debating! Phew… my voice barely made it through too. I brought some throat lozenges just in case.

But… we didn’t do too bad. Nik and I went through to the finals in Parli Debate with a 5-1 record! We lost the first elimination round with a 1-2 vote from the panel of judges. I went into the round with the hopes of at least a single vote to show that we fought well. I’m happy with that.

My persuasive platform speech also took a Finalist awards in the Junior level of competition. I completely didn’t expect that one, but it excites me to the potential of it’s use in future tournaments.

I’m exhausted from the pressure… mmm…

Conrad in news

Long story short, I was reading news articles and blogs about the death of my good friend Conrad. It was really strange to see people talk about him that didn’t know him, and this one guy said the following and it kinda set me off:
“Conrado Salinas sounds like a hispanic name……TJ is a dangerous and seedy town…..wouldn’t gothere if you paid me.”

C-Tran

As a volunteer to help get the vote for C-Tran this September, I’ve setup a website for them. It’s just a basic holder-page right now but there will be some kind of content in the coming days. Time is of the essence.

London

Our prayers go out to London for the atrocities committed on their people today. Terrorism is truly the most foul and vile of all weapons.
